Urubu Tapes
Vítor Rua‘s new edition on Urubu, which has been building quite a remarkable catalogue, as the result of a close documentation of some of the most interesting projects within the Portuguese underground, recovers recordings from 1984 and is divided in two tapes whose titles describe its content in a straightforward manner: “Guitar Works/Synth Works 1984”.
However, behind its intentional literalness, there is the wish to avoid the interpretative constraints inevitably linked to any title, as well as a certain dose of irony: the relation with instruments is reconverted, bound to a creative combat between man and machine, reducing the relevance of the origin of sounds, under that same literal point of view, and giving more importance to the way they unfold and expand, allowing to create new languages from available resources.
