Warp
The Warp Records release “Cargaa 1” features five tracks from a clutch of Lisbon producers combining African genres like kuduro, batida, kizomba, funaná and tarrachinha with Western house and techno sounds. Honing in on Príncipe Discos artists DJ Marfox, Dj Nigga Fox, Blacksea Não Maya, Tia Maria Produções the release comes off the back of a wave of interest in a sound previously confined to the suburbs of the Portuguese capital.
The EP’s name is a popular slang term among Lisbon’s young producers. Roughly meaning “hot” and “heavy”, they frequently use it to describe their music on SoundCloud comments, mixes and even in track titles.
This is hardcore stuff!
