Carlos Guedes
Carlos Guedes is a Portuguese composer, media artist, educator, and researcher, with a multifaceted activity whose creative work comprises several commissions of music for contemporary dance, theater, film and interactive installations, aside from traditional concert music.
His music has been heard in places such as The Kitchen, Joyce SoHo, Judson Church, ArCo, De Waag, SXSW, Teatro Nacional de S. João, SIGGRAPH, Shanghai eArts, Casa da Música, Expo ’98, Porto 2001, Guimarães 2012 European Capital of Culture, Beijing Modern Music Festival 2016, and Sharjah Flag Island Festival.Recent presentations of musical work include “Phobia robotica” for a robotic instrument orchestra part of Sonoscopia project Phobos, “On the resolution of regional tensions” for big band and live electronics, a commission from Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos for the 13th international symposium on Computer Music Multidisciplinary Research (CMMR 2017), “becoming space” with SSS+Q at the International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) in Shanghai and “1985.2” for soprano sax and fixed media electronics at the Seoul International Computer Music Festival. Carlos Guedes is currently Associate Arts Professor of Music at NYU Abu Dhabi.
