Steelpan trio album composed by a Portuguese drummer Jorge Queijo, a Japanese bassist Hiroki Chiba and a Japanese steelpanist Yoshio Machida. “Luminant” was recorded in Tokyo, when Jorge Queijo played in Japan in 2014 and 2015, alongside with 2 Japanese artists. All tracks are products of sheer improvisation.
Queijo plays drums and percussions in Jazz and post-rock projets mainly. He also directs a very unique Gamelan ensemble in Oporto (Ensemble de Gamelão). Chiba plays double bass with some unique effects. The acoustic bass sound is processed through a natural glitch surface. Machida plays double tenor steelpans and gamelan (Java gender) in this album. His style is influenced by Asian music; Indian improvisation, Gamelan and Myanmar traditional music. The sounds of this trio include Jazz, World Music, Experimental, Electronics and ambient sounds.
