Idealist – Firewood Street – 2LP

Operating from Firewood Street in Zurich’s suburbs, Idealist has devoted the last 6 years to find and create a balanced hybrid of deep house, dub techno and Detroit influenced grooves. Now, after releasing an impressive string of EP’s on his Idealistmusic imprint, he is ready to make a step forward in the form of a first full-length LP.

“Firewood Street” brings a collection of warm, dancefloor-geared tracks. The mood is dark and doomy, yet not aggressive and very liberating. Where many artists in the DJ community have hard time approaching the album concept Idealist’s talent at crafting slow-building atmospheres and dense soundscapes evokes a whimsical experience of auscultation. Imagine Deepchord meets Kerri Chandler for a joint studio session – you know you can’t get any wrong from that.

As a result, nearly all of these nine tracks linked to a similar template: a steady 4/4 kick-drum thump, a hypnotic synth motif, a driving bass line, and the right amount of subtle additions and subtractions needed to keep a party going. The overall effect is a stunningly immersive listening experience which reveals new details with each and every play. Full of long instrumental grooves which slowly but surely develop over time.
